Picky about the places we stay

I had a friend of mine do a little bit of investigating for me in to the options for some free state accommodation as he lives there and I figured it would be easy for him to do a bit of a drive around and have a look at some places. I know there is always the internet to look at things but I usually prefer that either myself or someone whose opinion I trust has a look in person. Without sounding arrogant, my partner and I are quite picky with the places we stay, hence the reason we like to see a place before booking it.
