The iPhone comes with a built in technology known as an accelerometer. This allows the iPhone to sense its orientation in three dimensional space. In plain English, what this means is that the iPhone can sense when it is being rotated along any of its axises, up and down, or left and right. This is extremely useful in many applications. One very good example is its use as a leveler.
