This is because the average person is only buying rolls of scotch and masking tape for simple binding jobs around the house. If you are someone who works with more heavy duty tapes like a electrician or a contractor, you better believe you want to get the best price available on tape, especially if you are buying it in bulk. Getting something like heat shrink tape is not a cheap endeavour. Sure, it might only cost ten dollars, but when you are buying a lot of it saving 50 cents on a roll ads up.
